A dense, sliceable Spanish fruit cake of dried figs, dates and apricots, pressed together with almonds and candied orange zest and a small amount of red jalapeño. The figs, almonds and orange zest are Spanish. It is sweet and chewy, with a bright citrus note from the orange and a gentle warmth from the chilli that builds at the end rather than burning. A 250g cake.

Their fruit cakes follow the old Spanish tradition of pressing naturally dried figs into a dense ‘bread’ or cake, using Pajarero figs from Extremadura and Valencian almonds.

Think Mediterranean designed this one to go with aged cheeses – slice it thinly and serve it with a mature Manchego, a Comté or a strong cheddar. It is also good with a glass of sweet sherry or port after Christmas dinner.

Ingredients: dried figs (42%), apricots (19%), dates (18.5%), almonds (10%), candied orange zest (10%), red jalapeño (under 0.5%); the apricots contain sulphur dioxide. Contains almonds and sulphites. May contain soya and hazelnuts. Keep cool and dry, and in the fridge once opened.
