A festive favourite from Hawkshead Relish, with a soft, jam-like set and plenty of fire. Red chilli peppers make up more than a third of the jar, cooked with sugar, onions, garlic, ginger, paprika, cayenne and black pepper. It starts sweet and finishes hot.
Use it as a dip or sauce, brush it over chicken legs before roasting for a sticky, spicy glaze, or stir a spoonful into a stir fry. It is also excellent with cheese – a sharp Cheddar or a slab of halloumi – and in a bacon or sausage sandwich. La’al is Cumbrian dialect for small, so this is a handy size for a stocking or hamper.
