Zamburiñas are the small, sweet scallops of the Galician rías, and these come from the fish market at Cambados on the Ría de Arousa. La Curiosa packs them al ajillo, in olive oil with garlic and guindilla chilli, so the tin gives you tender scallops and a garlicky, gently hot oil that is too good to waste. Net weight 110g (60g drained).
La Curiosa was founded by Cristóbal Fernández in Nigrán, on the Galician coast near Vigo. His mother worked in a cannery for more than fifteen years and he later worked in one himself, and the brand is his modern take on that tradition: Galician seafood and natural ingredients only, packed by hand in some of the best canneries around the Ría de Arousa. Each label is illustrated by artist María José Fernández with a scene from Spanish history since 1940, so the tins look as good on the shelf as they taste.
Warm the tin gently and serve with bread to mop up the oil, or tip the scallops and their oil over hot pasta or rice. A great stocking filler for anyone who loves tapas.
