The Montenero is Fiasconaro’s own twist on the classic panettone – a “pandettone”, sitting somewhere between a panettone and a pandoro. It has a rich, dark dough made with Sicilian chocolate and cocoa, brightened with Sicilian lemon essence, for a comforting, layered sweetness. Sugar and a sprinkler are included, for dusting with icing sugar before serving.
It was introduced in 2023 to mark Fiasconaro’s 70th anniversary, reviving Mannetto, the bakery’s very first panettone, of which it is a reinterpretation. Montenero takes its name from the district where the Fiasconaro family grew up. It comes presented in a striking royal blue tin, which makes a nice keepsake once the cake is finished.
