Anthon Berg’s liqueur chocolates are a Christmas institution: miniature bottles moulded from dark chocolate, each filled with a liquid measure of a well-known spirit or liqueur and dressed in a foil wrapper that copies the real bottle’s label. This box holds 16 of them, 250g in all, with fillings from brands such as Rémy Martin, Cointreau and Grand Marnier. The chocolate is dark, with a minimum 55% cocoa in the bottles, which keeps the whole thing from being too sweet.
Anthon Berg is one of Denmark’s best-known chocolate makers. Anthon Berg, a Copenhagen greengrocer, bought a confectionery business in 1884, and the company has been Purveyor to the Royal Danish Court since 1957.
Bite the top off and drink the liqueur first, or eat them whole – either way, a classic after-dinner treat and an easy present for grown-ups. Contains alcohol, so not suitable for children.
