Proper deep filled mince pies, six to a box. The filling makes up just over half of each pie: a brandy mincemeat of vine fruits, apple and candied mixed peel, warmed with ginger, cinnamon and allspice and a good splash of brandy, all in a crumbly shortcrust pastry case.
Grandma Wild’s is a Yorkshire family bakery now in its fourth generation. Annie Wild started the original Wild’s Bakery around 1899 in Morecambe, Lancashire, running the bakery shop and a boarding house while raising three sons. Her eldest son John moved the business to Haworth in Yorkshire in the 1920s, and since 2000 the family has baked in Steeton, West Yorkshire, still using many of Annie’s recipes and tray baking the biscuits in the traditional way.
Warm them through in a low oven and serve with brandy butter, custard or a spoonful of whipped cream, or keep a box handy for when people drop round over Christmas.
