Onion makes up more than three quarters of this jar. It is cooked down slowly with caramel and a little balsamic vinegar until the onions are soft, sticky and spreadable, with a deep, savoury sweetness and a light tang from the vinegar. It comes from Spain in a 210g jar.
Spread it on sourdough toast with crumbled goat’s cheese, spoon it next to a strong cheddar, Manchego or blue on the cheeseboard, or stir it through a sausage casserole or into gravy for extra depth. It is also very good in a toastie or on a burger.
Ingredients: onion (78%), caramel (20%), balsamic vinegar (2%), citric acid. Keep in the fridge once opened and use within 15 days.
