Sixteen little chocolate pearls, each with a liquid espresso martini filling that bursts when you bite in – coffee and a hint of the cocktail wrapped in a thin chocolate shell. The pack weighs 120g, and they are part of Carré’s Pearl collection, alongside Limoncello and Orange Spritz.
Chocolaterie Carré is a Belgian family business started by Dirk Naert and his wife Mieke with no money and no customers, and it has spent around three decades specialising in the tricky art of liquid-filled chocolates – liqueurs and wine at first, and later its well-known beer-filled ChocOBeer pralines, made with Belgian breweries. They still regard chocolate-making as a craft that should never be fully automated.
A fun one for the espresso martini fan, and a nice thing to pass round with coffee after Christmas dinner.
