As the name says, Hawkshead Relish made this one for the cheeseboard. It is a fruity, deep red chutney of cranberries, Bramley and eating apples and figs, cooked with onions, orange juice and dried cranberries and finished with a good glug of Pinot Noir, then seasoned with mustard seeds, black pepper and a little cinnamon. The cranberries give it a bright, tart edge that cuts through rich cheese, and the wine adds depth. This is the 240g Grande Couture jar.

Try it with a mature Cheddar, a creamy Brie or a blue, or with cold turkey, ham and pork pie on Boxing Day. The Couture range comes in Italian-style jars, so it makes a smart present on its own or in a hamper.

Hawkshead Relish was started in 1999 by Mark and Maria Whitehead, who made relishes and chutneys for the café they ran in the village of Hawkshead. When foot and mouth emptied the Lakes of visitors in 2001, the chutneys became the business. Today they make more than 100 products by hand in open pans near Esthwaite Water, and have won more than 60 Great Taste Awards.

Gluten free and suitable for vegans. Contains mustard. Keep in the fridge once opened and use within a month.
