About

From Bárbara Palacios Winery, a female-run Spanish winery.

Most of the vineyards, located in Riscos de Bilibio, are family-owned and enjoy the most fertile terroirs of the Rioja DOC wine region. The winery is well-known for its Barbarot wine, a unique blend of Merlot and Tempranillo.

Bárbara Palacios was started by a female owner with the same name. Bárbara Palacios López-Montenegro came from a family with long viticulture and winemaking tradition.

She worked in multiple Worldwide renowned wineries, gaining experience to start her own, such as Château Recougne in Pomerol, Castello di Poppiano in Tuscany, Mudhouse Winery in Malborough, New Zealand. She also gained experience from Curicó in Chile and Pulenta Estate in Mendoza, Argentina. In 2005, she decided to follow her father and grandfather’s footsteps and started growing grapes in the vineyards first planted by her father, Antonio Palacios Muro. Today, she uses her grandfather José Palacios Remondo’s estate to deliver high-end red and white wines.

The first vineyard was planted in 1990, covering around two hectares of Tempranillo and three hectares of Merlot as an experimental variety. Later in 1999, another seven acres of Tempranillo was grown. It was Bárbara’s father’s strategic decision to cultivate grapes that express the originality of the terroirs. Following her father’s footsteps, Bárbara planted Garnacha Blanca, along with other foreign varietals.

Description

A beautiful modern style, Rioja Alta wine from an internationally renowned wine-maker (of the Palacios family), with a blend of Tempranillo and Merlot.
With the name inspired by the family dog, this is full of red fruits, think cherries and redcurrants. It is fresh, nicely balanced with rounded tannins and a pleasant long finish.
