Athenian Thins take the flavours of baklava and lay them out flat. Sheets of extra-thin phyllo pastry are glazed with honey and baked until super crunchy, then topped – in this version – with seeds and cranberry. The makers describe them as an open take on baklava, or a more sophisticated wafer: light, crisp and sweet without being heavy. Each box holds 80g.
They are made by Plenty Oh!, a Greek snack brand based in Ioannina in north-west Greece, a town long known for its baklava. The brand’s idea is to bring Greek snacking up to date, pairing nuts, seeds and honey with that very fine, crackly pastry.
Good with a coffee or a mint tea, alongside ice cream or Greek yoghurt, or on the cheeseboard next to something salty like feta.
