About

Vinas del Cantabrico in are in Salamanca and they produce wines which are both absolute showstoppers and incredibly rare. Salamanca is famed for producing the glorious Iberico de Bellota ham. For a while, now, it has been producing wine that has been taking the international wine world by storm – clearing out in the international wine awards and leaving critics eulogising like Peter Kay over a slice of garlic bread! In fact, they have been producing wine in that area since Roman times. Viñas del Cámbrico is based in one of Spain’s most recently granted DOs, Sierra de Salamanca, located at the southern end of Castilla y León. Since their first vintage in 2003 they have been making wines from the local Rufete and Rufete Blanca grapes, grown on old vines which are planted on granite and slate soil terraces.

Description

The Rufete grape that the red is made from is a perfect combination of pure cherry fruit and wild herbs, with some appealing earthy notes on the finish – aromas of strawberries, balsamic, and hints of mint and fresh floral are prominent. The almost ethereal nature of this wine is reminiscent of Pinot Noir, yet Rufete has its own distinct personality and charm. From organic 70 year old vineyards, this handcrafted wine is unfiltered and unfined This wine is just exceptional.
