About

Native to north-west Spain and thriving on slate terraces, the Mencía grape variety delivers delicately fruity, lightly perfumed red wine with a characteristic mineral note. Grown in the heart of the Bierzo region, a lush and fertile enclave of Castilla y León, this versatile Mencía is a great example from its most renowned appellation. Fragrant on the nose with delicate aromas of red cherries, blackberries and a hint of violet. The persistent mineral note present on the nose is echoed on the palate. Dense with a rounded texture, Salterio displays concentrated flavours of sweet and savoury cherry, complimented by light floral notes and lingering freshness. Slightly chilled, Salterio Mencía will make a refreshing aperitif and will definitely pair with a wide array of dishes such as: traditional Spanish cold cuts, “arroz al horno” (baked rice), bean stew, Galician beef empanada, roasted turkey

Description

This is deep in colour and flavour, thanks to the intensity of the wonderful Prieto Picudo grape, indigenous to the León region. A deep ruby red colour with violet reflections, the wine is intense and complex on the nose, with delicate raspberry and liquorice aromas. It is gentle, light and structured at the same time with freshness and acidity. Fabulous with pretty much any tapas. Simply outstanding.

Prieto Picudo is a very rare, dark-skinned, red wine grape that grows primarily in its homeland of León, located in northern Spain. There are a little more than 4,000 hectares planted in Spain.
