About

A group of winemakers, passionate about old-vine Cariñena – the champion variety of the region – planted what are today’s gnarled rows of 70 year-old vines. Originally created as a means for local growers to secure control of their production, the group today boasts around 700 winegrowers across 3,500 hectares of vineyards. With origins dating as far back as Roman times, this appellation is one of the oldest cradles of winemaking in Spain, and is the birthplace of the Cariñena grape (known as Carignan in France).

The particular microclimate in this area, with the local Cierzo wind and vineyards on plateaux bringing down temperatures and extending the growing season, allows these grapes to ripen to such perfection – a winemaking haven. Since 1962, the bodega has worked to not only continually improve their viticulture practices, but also to incorporate the latest initiatives into their advanced winemaking kit. Here is a great example of a winery that combines ancestral winemaking practices with state of the art technology, to create a qualitative range of wines
