Vinas del Cantabrico in are in Salamanca and they produce wines which are both absolute showstoppers and incredibly rare. Salamanca is famed for producing the glorious Iberico de Bellota ham. For a while, now, it has been producing wine that has been taking the international wine world by storm – clearing out in the international wine awards and leaving critics eulogising like Peter Kay over a slice of garlic bread! In fact, they have been producing wine in that area since Roman times. Viñas del Cámbrico is based in one of Spain’s most recently granted DOs, Sierra de Salamanca, located at the southern end of Castilla y León. Since their first vintage in 2003 they have been making wines from the local Rufete and Rufete Blanca grapes, grown on old vines which are planted on granite and slate soil terraces.

A showstopper of an example for the Rufete Blanca grape. The floral notes that come through on the palate are followed by crisp green apple and
minerality on the palate with a glorious mouth-filling texture reminiscent of the juiciness of a first kiss as a teenager. On the finish, there is a subtle tannic grip that the thick skins bring to the wine. From Spain’s newest D.O
