The Pingus domaine, which has been owned since 1995 by the famous Dane, Peter Sisseck, is highly esteemed and has established its credentials with one of the best known wines in Spain, if not the world. On a vineyard planted with very old Tempranillo vines (over 80 years of age) the winemaker produces three cuvées, one of which is made with grapes sourced outside the domaine. As the vineyard is fairly small, production is naturally very low, especially as yields are strictly limited – and therefore all the more desirable.
Flor de Pingus is produced by a cooperative of quality-focused wine growers who, in the main, cultivate their vineyards according to biodynamic principles. It was the inspiration of Peter Sisseck who is committed to developing the potential of the Ribera del Duero’s older vineyards by working with their owners.
Peter Sisseck is an exceptional Danish winemaker, who fell in love with Ribera del Duero. He could see the huge potential of the very old bush vines, its poor soils and climate. So started the great Pingus dynasty.
Flor de Pingus is made from 95% Tempranillo and 5% Garnacha from just over 35 hectares of the estate’s best vineyards, Flor de Pingus really excels year after year as some of the younger vines are getting older. Bramble fruits combine with wild strawberries and cinnamon spice with notes of tobacco and vanilla. The tannins are velvety yet structured and the core is concentrated with a super long length.
