Oregano is the basic herb of Greek cooking, and Greek mountain oregano is famously pungent and aromatic. This 40g pack is dried oregano from the Greek mountains, kept on the stem – crumble the leaves and flowers off the stalk straight into the pan or over the plate as you need them, and the aroma is far fresher than a jar of ready-rubbed.

ERGON was founded in Thessaloniki in 2008 by brothers Thomas and George Douzis, who came from a family with three generations in the food trade. They set out to bring together small Greek producers and farmers under one brand, so that traditional Greek produce could reach kitchens abroad at a modern standard, and today they run delis and restaurants in Greece, the UK, Cyprus and the Middle East as well as their food range.

Crumble it over a Greek salad, feta or tomatoes with olive oil, into lamb or chicken marinades, over roast potatoes, or into tomato sauces and slow-cooked dishes. It can also be steeped in hot water for a herbal tea.
