Quaranta’s soft nougat cakes are big, round cakes of soft torrone, sold here as a generous individually wrapped 165g slice. The pistachio version is made to a traditional recipe, flavoured with honey and studded with pistachios, almonds and hazelnuts, so every bite is soft and chewy with plenty of nuts.
Quaranta is a family nougat maker founded in 1924 in Caravaggio, near Bergamo in Lombardy, not far from Milan, and still works from the recipe of its founder Antonio Quaranta. The company celebrated its centenary in 2024, and is known for its soft torrone, which is lighter and more yielding than the hard, snappy kind.
Cut it into thin fingers to go with coffee or a glass of something sweet, or wrap it up as a stocking filler.
