Orange Jalfrezi is the chocolate that made Choc Amor’s name, and it is still their best seller. It sounds mad, but it works – smooth milk chocolate flavoured with orange oil and a proper jalfrezi curry mix of paprika, coriander, cumin, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and a little chilli, with fennel, allspice and a pinch of pink Himalayan salt. The orange comes through first, then a gentle warmth builds from the spices rather than any real heat.
Choc Amor was founded in 2012 by chocolatier Paul Williams and his wife Jacqui, starting out in their family kitchen in Yorkshire. Paul approaches chocolate like a chef, pairing it with ingredients most chocolatiers would never go near, and it has won them awards at both the International Chocolate Awards and the Great Taste Awards. They use single-origin Colombian chocolate, bought through partners who work directly with the farmers.
