A gift box holding two of the chilli sauces Hawkshead Relish launched in summer 2022. The Sriracha Ketchup (295g) has a rich tomato base with red chillies, garlic, ginger, dried chilli and cayenne – red chilli peppers make up 11% of the jar – and is very good stirred into chilli con carne, spooned over cheesy nachos or used as a dip for homemade chips.
The Sticky Chilli Marinade (325g) is dark and glossy, built on red chilli, ginger and garlic with balsamic vinegar, treacle, coconut aminos and tamarind, and warmed with coriander, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves. It was developed with marinating in mind: leave chicken wings or drumsticks in it overnight, then roast or barbecue them for a properly sticky finish.
Both are made by hand in open pans by Hawkshead Relish, the Lake District company Mark and Maria Whitehead started from their village café in 1999. A good present for anyone who likes a bit of heat.
The Sticky Chilli Marinade is gluten free and suitable for vegans. Keep both in the fridge once opened and use within a month.
