Hawkshead Relish’s Christmas Ketchup is a fruity, savoury sauce built for festive food. Cranberries make up nearly a quarter of the bottle, cooked with tomato, onions, red peppers and a little redcurrant, then spiced with ginger, garlic, cloves, orange juice and zest, cinnamon and anise. It is sweet and tangy with a gentle warmth, and won a Bronze at the 2025 Free From Awards. The bottle is 275g.
Hawkshead suggest it with pigs in blankets, a baked Camembert, turkey or bacon sandwiches, or simply for dipping chips. It is also a good thing to have in the fridge for the Boxing Day leftovers.
Hawkshead Relish was founded in 1999 by Mark and Maria Whitehead, who made chutneys for their café in the Lake District village of Hawkshead. When foot and mouth kept visitors away in 2001 they turned the preserves into the business, and today they make more than 100 products by hand in open pans beside Esthwaite Water. They have more than 60 Great Taste Awards, and both founders hold MBEs.
