A fruity wheat beer, named in honour of the Jazz guitarist Django Reinhart.
Brewed in a Belgium Blanche style using Hallertauer Tradition hops, Pilsener malt, wheat and oat flakes with an ale yeast and ginger among the spice adjuncts. Basque brewer Mala Gissona is based in San Sebastian. Inspired by the local seafarers, they are particularly drawn to the Basque whalers who have ventured around Iceland since, at least, 1412. The colloquial translation of Mala Gissona is ‘sweaty bollocks’, derived from the name that Icelanders gave the Basque fisherman after 6 months at sea!
The un-malted cereals and wheat give a beer that is pale coloured with a fine head, an intensely fruity and spicy bouquet, a slightly sweet, very fruity palate and a light, refreshing and lasting finish. Pair this with seafood, smoked fish, anchovies, soft and ‘unripe’ cheeses.
