Burnt Basque Cheesecake Cookalong Pack (for 12th March 2021)


Our Facebook cookalongs are legendary (at least in our own minds!).  This world famous cheesecake, conceived by the fabulous La Viña of San Sebastian, and imitated the world over.  We have had it on our menu, on and off over the years.  Hard to describe, but part soft cheesecake, a touch of egg custard about it, but utterly unique.  The caramelised edges complementing the soft, sweet, creamy, eggy vanillary centre.

You will receive all of the ingredients you need for this (and the greaseproof baking paper), you just need to make sure you have a 20 – 24 cm diameter cake tin (ideally spring-form).  It will give you 8-12 portions, depending on how gluttonous you are!  You will also get a very rare opportunity to eat this whist it is still freshly warm – just as they serve it in La Vina in San Sebastian.  A perfect antidote to the misery of lockdown.  It is pure luxury.  This lasts well in the fridge and holds for 5 days.

You will get your pack on Thursday 11th March and the cookalong will be on Facebook at 6pm on Friday 12th March.  Peter will be doing the cooking demo – it takes about 10 minutes to do the mix and then approximately 60 minutes to bake (and 30 minutes or so to cool down enough to eat).  This will be fun, sociable and you will learn the closely guarded secrets of the La Vina chefs.

We would recommend buying a bottle of wine and some nibbles, meats and cheeses to enjoy whilst this bakes!
